CB-C78 not recognizing hdmi monitors

laptop is Omen 17 an012dx with usb-c, (they call it thunderbolt, but this pc takes 240 watt power supply so it doesn’t work for charging the laptop), and (3) usb 3.1 ports.
cb-c78 is detecting the devices as they plug in to the hub: the computer beeps recognition, but does not detect that monitors are attached to the c78’s hdmi ports.
I then consulted the manual and attached my samsung s10’s wall adapter in to the pd port of the c78, but I think I may have burned out my computer’s usb-c port. It no longer detects a monitor plugged directly into the usb-c port with an hdmi-usb-c cable (it did before testing the hub).
I’m hoping, though, that perhaps there is some some driver issue that is interfering, as I now get in device manager, under usb composite device properties, event tab: Device USB\VID_05C8&PID_03AB\5&20c1f84d&0&6 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match — followed by —Last Device Instance Id: USB\VID_046D&PID_C534\5&2b2a7300&0&2

Does anyone have any tips on how I might be able to get this operational? USB and RJ-45 are working, just not the hdmi ports… Do I need power delivered to the c78 for the hdmi ports to function? How much? Is there a way to tell the c78 not to deliver power back to the pc’s usb-c port? Is there a hub that would better for my laptop?
